URS

Fast-track ICANN suspension for trademark disputes on new gTLDs; 10-day takedown, no pre-suspension hearing.

Uniform Rapid Suspension—ICANN's fast-track takedown mechanism for new gTLDs. It's the speed-dial version of UDRP: complaint filed, evidence reviewed in 5 days, domain yanked in 10. No hearing, no back-and-forth.

Designed for trademark holders to nuke obvious squatters without the expense of UDRP arbitration. Works only on gTLDs registered after 2013 (new gTLD program). Complainant needs trademark registration or court judgment. Registrant gets no chance to defend before suspension—only after, if they want to appeal.

Why it matters: URS is faster and cheaper than UDRP, making it the weapon of choice for large trademark owners. If you register a domain that shadows an active trademark in a new gTLD, URS suspension is real risk. Some registrars (including bunkerdomains) don't enforce UDRP or URS, but ICANN registry operators ultimately control the nameservers—suspension happens at that layer regardless. Appeal and reinstatement are possible but require resources. Not available on legacy TLDs (.com, .org, ccTLDs).
